"This show was my exploration of the symbols of Greekness. These symbols, often used to define my identity and connection to this place, felt oddly distant to me. Walking through Monastiraki, one is bombarded with a spectacle of Greekness—temples, gods, Spartan warriors, and even humorous trinkets like penis-shaped beer openers. Yet, the same symbols are co-opted by extreme right-wingers to express their ideologies, creating a curious juxtaposition. I envision an ex-pat with a keen sense of style seamlessly blending into this chaos," reflects Aristeidis Lappas. The Breeder is excited to present "Part II" of Lappas' exhibition, where three-dimensional works and installations further animate his imagery. Treating the gallery as an extension of his studio, Lappas keeps the works in flux, allowing for dynamic interactions and explorations of identity, urbanism, humor, and existential themes. His vibrant playground invites playful discoveries and re-examinations, providing space to confront repressed issues through a balance of abstraction and narrative.
