The Breeder is excited to announce "Body Thoughts," an exhibition featuring new drawings by Aristeidis Lappas, who continues his exploration of the human form—a central theme in his artistic practice and his recent solo exhibition, "Tenderness of a Cutting Sword," which examined the female figure in mythology. This new body of work showcases vibrant, dynamic colors—deep blues, yellows, and reds against stark white backgrounds—offering a striking perspective on the human body. Lappas draws inspiration from Renaissance sculptures, as well as contemporary dancers, to distill the essence of the body through essential lines. While these drawings present a more restrained approach compared to his paintings, the elongated faces and languid limbs of his subjects exude a subtle, deeply human charm. As Lappas articulates, the relationship a painter has with the body involves reinventing its representation, engaging in a dialogue with historical references while embracing and subverting them, ultimately creating a novel re-creation that reflects the complexities of perception and identity.
