Aristeidis Lappas' mural, titled "She Who Protects," located near Omonia Square, celebrates the vibrant diversity of Athens and its contemporary cultural landscape. This work reinterprets the figure of Athena, fully armored and holding a spear and shield, as a protector of the city, prepared to engage with its bustling crowds. The mural features bright colors and patterns inspired by African textiles and traditional Balkan costumes, reflecting the nomadic and multicultural essence of the Athenian center. Lappas draws on the rich historical roots of Athena, connecting her to various ancient cultures and questioning the role of color in sculpture. He envisions an Athena who embodies, cares for, and protects modern Athens, a city characterized by myriad stories, colors, and dreams. This mural is part of the Onassis Stegi initiative to integrate art into everyday urban life, contributing to the evolving Athenian landscape.
